I was just wondering what other people thought about the La La Land ending. I've just been trying to rationalize it and understand why Damien wrote the ending the way that he did. I just watched it and my interpretation of the bittersweet ending is that it somehow ties in to the ideas of life being more improvised and unpredictable like free Moonlight was a serious film about a man's mostly sad life played by a far less known actor. I don't agree that La La Land spoke to artists more than Moonlight did, just that it has mass appeal. Greatest Showman also was more popular than Three Billboards or the Shape of Water. I was crying in line for In N Out and only forced myself to stop as I ate my burger.
